Frank Glazer is one of the most
compelling musical personalities of our day. He started his
piano studies at the age of seven, and at the age of seventeen
was sent to Berlin to study with the legendary pianist, Artur
Schnabel. There he met Arnold
Schoenberg with whom he subsequently had lessons in
counterpoint. Mr. Glazer debuted at Town Hall in New York City
four years later.
Since then he has played more than forty concerti with leading
orchestras worldwide and he has received the highest praise from
critics the world over. He has concertized in over twenty-four
countries, written, narrated and performed on his own television
shows for NBC stations and has recorded extensively. He was a
member of the Artist Faculty at the Eastman School of Music for
fifteen years.
Since coming to Maine he has maintained a busy schedule of
touring throughout the United States, Europe, the Near East and
Japan. He helped to initiate the first Chamber Music Residency
at the Portland Museum of Art and presented the first Summer
Institute of Chamber Music at the University of Southern Maine.
He is a founding member of the Eastman Quartet, the Cantilena
Chamber Players and the New England Piano Quartette, and is
co-founder of the SRFA.
Since 1980 he has been Artist-in-Residence and Lecturer in Music
at Bates College.

The Nordica Trio brings together
three outstanding musicians who have performed extensively
throughout the U.S. and abroad. The
trio, consisting of Clarinet, Violin or Viola, and Piano, made
its debut during the '94-'95 season and was enthusiastically
received by audiences across Maine. Maine Public Radio has
broadcast live recordings of their concerts for the program
"Maine Stage." The trio takes its name from the
American operatic soprano, Lillian Nordica. Born Lillian
Norton in Farmington, Maine, Madame Nordica made her operatic
debut in Brescia in 1879.

This San Francisco based string quartet joined by internationally acclaimed pianist, Frank Glazer, will perform works by Mozart, Borodin, and a quintet by Schostakovich.

the past to new commissions and distinctive collaborations with
guest artists.
Formerly in residence at Stanford
University as the Stanford String Quartet from 1983-98, the
Quartet departed the university to seek greater artistic
independence. A fully-independent touring and recording
ensemble, the Ives now performs home season concert series in
San Francisco, San Jose, and on the Peninsula and appears on
noted chamber music series and festivals nationwide. In
addition, the Quartet devotes time to a wide range of
educational projects, from performing for school-aged children
to visiting Trinity College for annual residency activities.

A superb woodwind group from Boston will give us their fresh and insightful take on works by Bozza, Pinkham, Ravel, Holst, and Villa-Lobos.

Arcadian Winds was founded at Boston
University in 1987. Originally
a woodwind trio consisting of flute, clarinet, and bassoon, the
ensemble expanded to a wind quintet in 1989. Since its
formation, Arcadian Winds has premiered almost 50 new works and
championed many others. With a strong commitment to education,
the group has brought chamber and contemporary music into the
public, private and community schools in the Boston Area.

Scott Woolweaver, violist,
graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan
School of Music before moving to Boston for graduate work with
Walter Trampler. He was a founding member of the Boston
Composers String Quartet, which won the silver medal at the 1993
String Quartet and Chamber Music Festa in Osaka, Japan, and
with the Quartet performed across the United States and Europe.
He is violist of the award-winning New England Piano Quartette,
Boston’s Handel & Haydn Society, Boston Baroque, and
spends summers at the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park
(CO), and Adult Chamber Music Seminars at the Interlochen Arts
Camp and Kneisel Hall in Blue Hill (ME).
A champion of 20th century music, Scott has premiered numerous
works for the viola, many of which were written for him. He has
toured Greece three times with Alea III, a contemporary music
ensemble in residence at Boston University, and has been soloist
or guest artist with numerous organizations across the United
States, including the Boston Chamber Music Society, Bay Chamber
Concerts, the Cape & Islands Festival, Chamber Artists of
Washington DC, Collage New Music, the Bangor (ME) Symphony, Les
Violons du Roy (Quebec), the Handel & Haydn Society, and the
Vermont Symphony Orchestra. In 1985 he was a founding member of
Chamber Music East (faculty, alumni and friends of the New
England Conservatory) and the First Monday Series at Jordan
Hall.
Scott is a faculty member of the All Newton Music School, Tufts
University, the University of Massachusetts (Boston Campus) and
has recorded for Orion, Koch International, TelDec, Audiofon,
Albany Records, Decca, and Northeastern Records.
